Robb McCormick has been dubbed a keyboardist amongst the upper tier of musicians in the midwest by reviewers and fans alike. With an impressive background in Classical, Jazz, Gospel and everything in between, Robb has toured and performed with national acts such as One Under, The Shantee, Zydeco legend CJ Chenier and many others. Constantly touring, inventing new ideas, recording, producing and engineering in his home studio in Columbus, he has made a name not only as a versitile keyboardist, but as a brilliant mind in the studio as well.
With his latest solo release Retronica, Robb has made his mark in the world of electronic music with an album he calls "refreshingly retro and modern in the same". With influences from many genres, the album is a unique blend of jazz, club and breakbeats with organic layers of vintage electric pianos, organs and synths from his impressive keyboard collection.
Taking his first piano lesson at the age of 4, Robb has been playing piano for over 26 years. Even though his main passion is Jazz, Blues, Gospel and Electronic music, Robb grew up studying mainly Classics, Broadway and Pop music. He had a clear talent for improvisation even at a very young age, recording his first solo piano studio compositions at the age of 12. His first performance was the 1st grade talent show where he played "The Rose" on piano. Since then he has played everything from weddings and local clubs to national venues opening for artists such as B.B.King, Keller Williams, Chicago, Sade, Jerry Garcia Band, John Cougar Meloncamp and many others. Just recently, in April of 2006, he performed with CJ Chenier at the infamous New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival headlining the historical Faus Do Do stage on Saturday night. He began teaching piano to neigborhood children at the age of 13 and from 1996 to 2006 worked full time teaching over 50 students in his Pickerington studio.
Robb has performed and recorded with several bands over the last decade including Dave Ritz (Pop/Rock), One Under (Rock), The Shantee (folk/rock), Alligator recording artist CJ Chenier, Secret Soul (funk/soul), Allton & Friends (roots rock), Backstairs Quartet (jazz), Shady Grove (bluegrass), Teeny Tucker & Drivin' Wheel (blues), Sean Carney (blues),Grasshopper Pie (folk rock), Raymond Powell (jazz/blues), Lemuria (rock), Uncle Sams Dream Machine (roots rock), Stonebyrd (jamband), Gene Walker (jazz/blues) and many others. He has also been asked to sit in with national acts such as Particle, former Grateful Dead keyboardist Vince Welnick's Band, Ekoostik Hookah and many others.
