Miranda & Luke’s Ohio Statehouse Engagement Session

If you are looking for an engagement session location in Ohio and appreciate history along with elegant surroundings, the Ohio Statehouse could be your personal paradise. It is a gorgeous and iconic building with aesthetically designed indoors and sublime outdoors to offer. I’ve always enjoyed photographing my lovely couples at this stunning location, and it was no different when I did an engagement shoot with my couple, Miranda and Luke, at the Ohio Statehouse. Located at Capitol Square in Downtown Columbus, this amazing Greek Revival building gave us some of the most incredible backdrops for photography. Not to mention how photogenic and natural my couple was in front of the camera. They were relaxed throughout and so comfortable, and that’s always a treat for a photographer. The result was - stellar engagement images!

Ohio Statehouse Engagement Photography

Miranda and Luke chose an elegant look for their engagement session at the Ohio Statehouse. My bride-to-be wore a flowy maroon cocktail gown, and Luke looked absolutely dapper in a suit complete with a tie and a tie pin. Honestly, they looked like a pair of professional models straight out of a fashion magazine. What a power couple! I loved seeing the efforts they put into picking their outfits, which also perfectly matched their personalities. The outfits, the colors, the location - everything blended together perfectly.

Creating my couple’s engagement images was a joy. From natural light and beautifully hued trees outdoors to warm lighting, arches, vintage lamps, dry flowers, and stunning concrete structures indoors, I got terrific backdrops to photograph Miranda and Luke against.

One thing that was consistent throughout our session was how happy Miranda and Luke were. And their beautiful smiles didn’t fade even for a second. Another thing that I really loved was how my couple made this day their own and genuinely enjoyed the moments they spent together. Miranda and Luke were so lost in each other. The way they looked into each other’s eyes, held hands, embraced each other, and planted gentle kisses on each other was heartwarming! I just immediately knew that these two are made for each other.

I took photos of my couple against the majestic architecture of the Ohio Statehouse to establish their surroundings and also set a mood in the pictures. The shiny white marble all around and Greek architecture-inspired pillars all made for brilliant backdrops. I photographed Miranda and Luke on the stairs, where a window had tinted glass with diamond shapes on it. For another picture, I posed them against a background that had a yellow border around the window frames. In both the photos, these elements added a pop of color to the images, which really added to the vibrance. Also, using the Statehouse’s architecture to my advantage, I took an engagement photo of Miranda and Luke on the stairs where they stood at one corner, and the marble railing with gorgeous molded pillars created a diagonal line leading the viewer’s eye towards them.

The heavy metal gate with bars also helped me compose a classic portrait of Miranda and Luke. Also, there was a Christmas tree indoors, which I did not miss using as a backdrop for my couple’s portraits. Besides all the romantic pictures of my couple together, I also took their solo portraits. Of course, with all the efforts they put in, their look of the day deserved the spotlight. I truly enjoyed working with these two and loved being in their company. Miranda and Luke, if you are reading this, I hope you love your photos as much as I loved taking them.
