Priya & Connor’s Sangeet: Indian Wedding Photography

‘Sangeet’ literally translates to music in Hindi, and that’s what it’s all about at many Indian weddings - a night full of music, dancing, delicious food, and festivities! It is one of the many celebrations that take place before the actual wedding ceremony, with the couple and their loved ones participating with zest and fervor. Similarly, at Priya and Connor’s sangeet at their parents’ home in Dublin, Columbus, the mood was upbeat and the spirits high. What a beautiful burst of colors I witnessed at this celebration, and I’m happy to have captured the riot of colors into forever photos! From dance performances by the guests to dance recitals being presented on stage by professionals, there wasn’t a single dull moment at this incredible celebration. Be it the dressing, the florals, or other decorations, everything at my couple’s sangeet was dipped in traditions and culture. I truly felt honored to have been able to witness, photograph, and even enjoy it all.

Sangeet Photography in Dublin

Just like most Indian weddings where celebrations usually last two to three days or even more, this music night or sangeet was one part of my couple’s three-day celebrations. And, before this, I had photographed my bride, Priya’s mehndi. To read about this lovely wedding custom, my experience photographing it, and to see the images I took, you can check this out!

Though the mehndi celebration had already ensured that Priya and Connor’s wedding events started on a high note, the sangeet took it many levels higher. It was a day full of excitement, happiness, and love. I can’t express enough how much I loved my couple, Priya and Connor’s sangeet attire. They were so beautifully color-coordinated and looked like lovebirds straight out of a Bollywood movie!

Priya’s lehenga was simply gorgeous. With intricately embroidered birds and leaves in gold and other colorful threads, it looked so dreamy! The dupatta (the long red fabric with embroidered borders she wore over her shoulder) added a lovely contrast to her outfit. Her bangles, maang tikka (a ceremonial ornament worn on the forehead), necklace, jhumkas (earrings), and hair accessories were absolutely stunning! All those amazing pearls and glittery gems made her whole personality shine out brighter. Connor also looked super cool in his blue sherwani and yellow fine fabric dhoti (bottoms) and jacket to go with it.

For the sangeet, over 10 food stations had been put up and the house was decorated amazingly well. The garden lights looked fantastic and provided a warm tone to the images. The seating arrangements on the lawn were equally vibrant. With lush greenery and mesmerizing colors everywhere, I just knew I was going to get some of the most impressive sangeet images - and that’s exactly what I got. From photographing the table arrangements to taking images of delicious Indian snacks, I had so much fun.

Priya and Connor walked hand-in-hand and gave me great photo opportunities. I also took some solo portraits of my bride, Priya, and created lots of group images throughout. The ladies in attendance looked pretty in traditional Indian sarees and enjoyed listening to the music and dancing on my couple’s special day. While many professionals presented folk dances, the guests had their own amazing time doing the Garba/Dandiya dance and shaking a leg to dhol (double-headed drums) beats. Even my groom, Connor, was all pumped up and performed on stage. It was such a visual treat!
